Excursions

Discover something new or be fascinated by something old

There is a lot to experience around Turistgården. Here we have collected some examples of exciting excursion destinations that you can visit during your stay with us.

Dalsland´s canal  stretches from Östervallsskog in the north to Köpmannebro in the south. The 260-km-long canal creates many opportunities in addition to traveling by boat. You can, among other things, rent canoes and boats from us and in several places near Turistgården, for example at Nordmarkens Kanot Center, or paddle a guided tour with Scandiatrail. There are also nice hiking trails, cafes and restaurants along the canal.

Årjäng´s trotting track, also known as Sweden’s most beautiful trotting track, is a
perfect destination for those who want to take a break from the vacation. Here you can also eat and drink well while watching the trotting.

Nordiska Travmuseet (The Nordic Trotting Museum) is suitable for those with a
passion for trotting, but also for those who are curious to visit a fascinating museum.
Here you can learn more about the history of trotting or the origins of the horse. The
exhibitions are designed to interest both children and adults, regardless of how much
you already know about trotting and horses.

Båstnäs Car Cemetery is a place for those who are looking for a different kind of visit. Here you can walk around and look at old cars that in some cases have almost been devoured by nature. The mysterious and almost ghostly feel of the place makes it an exciting destination for young and old alike. This special place has also become a
destination for photographers and artists from all over the world.

Restaurants & cafés

Here you can eat to your heart's content

In the surrounding area there are restaurants for all tastes. If you want to splurge, the Waterside Restaurant in central Töcksfors is a good option. As the name suggests, this fantastic restaurant is close to the water and serves both lunch and A la carte. Within walking distance there are also two pizzerias and McDonalds.

At Töcksfors shopping center you will find a wide range of food with everything from Asian to American. For example, you can take a break from shopping and eat at Asian Town, Burger King or Numnum.

If you’re in the mood for a coffee, don’t worry. Near Turistgården you can have a cup of coffee at Espresso House, or why not buy a tasty milkshake at Joe’s diner.

Fishing

Can you manage to hook a pike-perch?

Turistgården’s proximity to water not only creates good opportunities for those who want to swim, but also for those who are interested in fishing. You can rent our boat or bring your own when you go out to test your luck at fishing.

If you’re lucky, you might catch a perch, pike or pikeperch. Don’t forget to buy a fishing license before you go out. Click here to read more about how to buy a fishing
license.

Go for a swim

Jump off the jetty or enjoy the beach

Past Turistgården flows Dalsland’s canal where those who want can swim from our own dock. If you want to swim, there is also the opportunity to take a few minutes walk to the nearest municipal beach.

Cycling

Roll along Unionsleden

If you want to cycle, there are plenty of opportunities to do so. At Turistgården, for example, the first Swedish stage of the national cycling trail Unionsleden starts. Via
Unionsleden and a detour of about 10 km – a total of 40 km round trip – you get a perfect day trip to the mythical and nationally famous Båstnäs Car Cemetery.

Hiking

Experience nature by foot

During the summer, spring and fall, you can experience the nature of Värmland by
going hiking. Among other things, you can walk on so-called refugee trails where
people walked to get from Norway to Sweden during the Second World War. A map of the various hiking trails is available for purchase at the reception and is called “Friluftskart i Grenseland”.  Around Töcksfors and Årjäng there are also other great opportunities for hiking. municipality.

Shopping in Årjäng

Cozy center and magnificent cross-border shopping

Do you want to go shopping? No problem. Töcksfors has a cozy center where you
can stroll around and shop in small local shops.

From Turistgården, it is also within walking distance to both Töcksfors Shopping Center and Töcksfors Handelspark. If that’s not enough, it’s no more than 9 miles to Oslo, where an unlimited range of shops awaits.
